Notes
Enock made a visit in this community to continue checking on the progress of sanitation improvements in homes around the swamp area and homes in the trading centre. He went to teach the core values and importance of sanitation in homes and remind the residents on the dangers of open defecation and standardization of facilities through the advise on how to construct good sustainable facilities. When he reached the community, they walked around with the local leaders and VHT called Rebecca Nabirye as well as Naiganga Betty who are so active and embraced the program to create change in their community. During the visit, they focused on behavioral change more on homes which are around the swamp area and most of them didn’t have good latrines due to the water levels in this area. Most of the residents in this area, have been practicing open defecation since most of the latrine fell due to heavy rainfall, some people didn’t have latrines. This gave Enock an opportunity to continue teaching the community members in this area about the core values of using latrines, reminded them about the many expenses on medication due to diseases brought about by poor sanitation and bad practices of open defecation, taught and advised them how to construct good standard facilities even though they have issues of sand soils around the swamp area, as we encouraged them to us good materials of cement, sand, strong logs or even make good firm foundation before constructing a structure. There is a good progress in the trading centre where most homes are investing to constructing good standard facilities say latrine, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas and dish racks. The is a positive attitude of improving there sanitation and hygiene facilities.
