Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Harriet went to Butabira village to guide participants to chose leaders that will coordinate the healthy and safe kitchens program as well as form policies that will guide the healthy and safe kitchens programs. She reached in the village and found a few participants waiting at the meeting place. Later own other participants also turned up for the meeting. The chairperson LC1 welcomed every one to the meeting. The meeting begun with an open prayer that was led by Tom who thanked the lord for providing journey mercies to kibo staff when ever they came to their village. Harriet begun by asking the participants to remind each other of what was taught previously. This was intended to ensure that they understand the lesson and still remember what was taught. Interestingly the participants remembered every thing . One participants echoed that this program aims at empowering the community with knowledge on how they can reduce domestic violence resulting from cooking food in a poor cooking environment. She added that because they understood the program and its value it is the reason why they have turned up for the meeting in a big number. Harriet thanked them for loving the program and having turned up in big number. She asked the participants to chose among themselves the leadership committee to coordinate the healthy and safe kitchens programs. At the beginning the women were shy and did not want to take responsibilities. Harriet told them that this program directly benefit them therefore it would be good for them also to take leadership roles. This was an encouraging message to the women who thought that all leadership positions should be taken up by men. At the end a committee of seven people was elected whereby it comprised of three men and Four women. Harriet reminded the community that these are voluntary leaders therefore the community should cooperate with them for the program to be successful. Also these leaders came from different corners of the village meaning that the village was fully represented. Kibo staff then guided the community to form policies that will govern the healthy and safe kitchens program to avoid cases of indiscipline and absenteeism which may affect the program. Harriet asked them to identify issues that they may affect the program, she also went a head to ask them to suggest possible solutions toward that issue in case it came up The participants mentioned the following issues with their solutions. Absenteeism. If some one missed the meeting with out communicating to the leaders he / she should be fined with Ugx 1000. They there fore reminded each other to communicate Incase some one was sick, had a sick child or any thing that may prevent him or her from attending. Late coming. They agreed that Incase some one came late should be punished by stamping the dirt alone for the next stove. They also said that if some one repeated mixed the lesson or came late during the lesson he / she should be expelled from the group. Harriet advised the group that Incase these person had already got a stove and he or she doesn’t want to work for other the stove should be destroyed so that he / she also looses. She also advised the group to love one another, respect one another to avoid all those issues that may affect the program .She also asked them to be committed to their goal until they achieve it . After one participants rose a hand and asked whether kibo can build for her a stove the next meeting and when will that be. Harriet pushed back the questions to the community as when they wanted kibo to go back to their village to continue with the lessons. The community was very eager and requested kibo to go back on Wednesday 2/5/2021 so that they can learn more. Harriet agreed on that and asked every one to come with a heap or either star or coach grass that will be used to build stoves and the lesson will base on that. The participants thanked kibo for the lesson and promised to keep on participating from the beginning to the end.
