- Lorna went to this village to meet with the community leaders on a way forward. We arrived a little earlier and waited for the committee members to come to the meeting. When they arrived, we had a small agenda consisting of an opening prayer, communication from the chairman. The committee members thought that Lorna had come to teach they even went ahead and 3 people reminded the rest of the last lesson that was taught in this village. It was impressive they remembered the lessons. Pastor Wilber was grateful for Kibo group he mentioned that each program that has taught in this village before prepared them for the covid situation. For example the lesson of Immune system under HIV/ Auds where they related it with Covid to keep their immunity strong this was good to hear, they mentioned the stoves program too which has kept families together in lockdown , they mentioned the borehole and hand washing and personal hygiene. They were thankful. When Lorna mentioned how the situation was like in the village, they said they lost people but not from their village, they mentioned one of the community members that lost her daughter but not due to covid. They mentioned they also fell sick but they followed the lessons and were healed. They were grateful to God that none among them passed and yet they lost prominent people even doctors.
On the way forward with the program, we devised ways on how we will be meeting. Together we agreed to put all the SOPs in place. We agreed to meet in size able numbers starting with 20 people. Wilber interrupted and also asked if we could also teach the children, teens and youth. He went ahead and said this season has made them realize that government is the owner of their children because only this time and they have failed to take care of their kids . They mentioned a few examples of one 15 year old girl who just gave birth nearby, another just disappeared with a boy. Lorna suggested that they can have 2 meetings one for adults and the other the children. They welcomed Lorna and thanked Kibo for thinking about them and making those phone calls to know what’s going on in the villages. Lorna encouraged them to take care of their children and that Covid is still among us but let’s do our best and God will do the rest. The community requested for masks and sanitizers .We will continue with our lessons next week.
