Notes
Before the lockdown in June, the village had contributed money and bought sand and bricks to be used to construct the wall fence at the new borehole. Alex met with the water user committee and the village leaders to make new plans how to have this wall fence built on this new borehole. The leaders had taken good care of the bricks and sand in order and wasn’t washed away by running water however some few bricks had got damaged by the rains but promised to replace them. One outstanding highlight of the day was from the village chairman, Mr Patrick Buyinza who appreciated kibo group for the support and teaching the village about the values of sanitation and hygiene and uplifting the standards in the village. It made all people in the village easy to follow the SOP’s to tackle the spread of the virus since people were able to wash their hands having constructed hand washing stands in all the homes. The water user committee secretary called Asudeti confessed that he one day got visitors from another district called Palisa who appreciated him for having a clean home with all the sanitation facilities in place. They loved so much the idea of hand washing and he taught them how it’s constructed and took the idea to their homes. Many people from the neighboring villages are copying what the people in Butabira have done and act as demo to the neighboring villages. Alex was able to see the materials that the community contributed and will plan to construct the wall fence on this borehole when kibo group is ready with it’s contributions. The community leaders and water user committee have taken good care of their two wells and are very happy with kibo group with its contributions that they will have to complete the wall fence on the new borehole as it was done at their old borehole. Alex encouraged the village leaders to remain active and be kibo ambassadors in their own village and the surrounding villages. They were also happy with the new program in the village from kibo group to build stoves in their homes and have been encouraged to learn the skill and have all people in the community participate and get these energy saving stoves.
