Notes
Suzan went to the village to introduce the healthy and safe kitchens program to the community members. She reached at the meeting place and found the members already gathered. They welcomed her and the chairperson L.C.1 opened a meeting with a short prayer and then invited Suzan to take over. Suzan first thanked the community for coming to the meeting and then she introduced the healthy and safe kitchens program to them. She explained the main goals and objectives of the program such as empowering them with the skills of building the fuel efficient stoves as well as improving on their general sanitation and hygiene facilities. She also explained to the community how the program will benefit them once they embraced it fully. Suzan requested each one to participate in the lessons such as discussing the gender productive and reproductive roles, because it would enable them understand and appreciate how much work their counterparts do at home daily. The members also discussed about the challenges they faced while cooking on the traditional three stones open flames and Suzan explained how the healthy and safe kitchens program would help in solving such problems once they began cooking on the improved fuel efficient stoves. These benefits were being able to save firewood and time for other activities, less accidents in the kitchens usually caused by the three stones, smokeless kitchens and reduced the number of trees cut down for firewood. She encouraged everyone to see that they improved on all their facilities before the actual stove building lessons started such as having a strong roofed smeared kitchen, good shower areas, latrines and firewood storages. Once each one had improved on their facilities, they would receive the improved stoves in the kitchens. The community welcomed the new program and promised to attend all the lessons as well as improving on all their facilities. They thanked Suzan for the lessons and the meeting came to an end.
