Notes
Jessica and tape went to the village to follow up on the improvements of the facilities such as smearing of the houses, construction of the firewood storages in the kitchens and the stove usage. When they got there, they went to the meeting place and met two active committee group leaders Sanyu and Amuza who agreed to walk them around the village while checking on the program facilities. The main purpose of the visit that day was to address the smoke problem of some kitchens which failed to pass it out from the vents because some members had complained to have that challenge. As they walked along visiting different homes ,Tape and Jessica observed that some members had not constructed the firewood storages in their kitchens saying that whenever they put them up, termites ate the poles which caused them to collapse. Kibo staff advised them to always first smear the poles with black oil which irritates the termites whenever they try to bite on them. Some stoves also needed to be repaired and smeared because of the cracks which had developed around them while others needed to be demolished because they were built at wrong wind directions. They encouraged the ones with good stoves to show others how to maintain them especially taking out the ash which blocked the airways. Other participants didn’t receive stoves because their kitchens were poorly constructed with poor roofing whereby they first wanted to construct new kitchens then receive the stoves. Tape and Jessica thanked the members for the good work done and they left the village.
