Notes
When Tom arrived in the village, he found the chairman at his home but other village committee members were still in the garden while others were helping in the grading of the road. The chairman was able to call other committee members who joined them after a while. The chairman thanked Tom for going back to the village to help them in the sanitation and hygiene improvement. When the meeting started, the chairman thanked every body who came that day for the meeting and thanked those that have been active in the program. He later invited Tom to speak to them. Tom first thanked them for coming to the meeting and then shared with them Kibo’s intentions in the village which is to guide the community to ODF status. Tom shared with them about the triggering lesson that they will be having soon and requested them to mobilize the community well so that they all attend. Tom and the leaders shared about ideas on how to better mobilise the community. Some of the vhts suggested that it was going to be hard for the residents to come for triggering because they will be in their gardens. Tom encouraged them that it would be good for every body in the village to attend the triggering session. He also was able to use data he collected during the baseline survey to show the community that he has each and every body’s name and that he was going to use it for registration on that day. The parish councilor also encouraged the rest of the leaders to join together and carry out mobilisation. They said they will mobilise well the village so that they all come. Also, the police officer shared with them about the need for proper hygiene and sanitation. After the meeting, Tom and the committee members moved to a section of the village to see what they have done since the time when Tom was making or carrying out the baseline. They found two new pits for latrines as well as new dish tracks. Tom encouraged the residents to come to the meeting and learn more about sanitation and hygiene.
