Notes
Suzan went to the village and found a few members gathered with grass at the meeting place. They had some logs, sharp pangas all placed on large plastic mat. Suzan first set an example and held a bunch of grass in her left hand while placing it on a piece of log. She then began chopping the grass into tiny pieces carefully while the members looked on. This was important for the community to learn because without doing it right, one can easily cut off his/her finger. The participants started practicing how to chop the grass while Suzan guided them. Later after, Suzan moved around the village with one of the active members and the group secretary Namuganza to follow up,on the smearing of the houses. They came across some young children trying to smear their mother’s kitchen and Suzan demonstrated to them how it was supposed to be while they watched because one of the boys was doing it wrongly. However the young children continued smearing the kitchen after Suzan showed them what to do. Some of the kitchens needed to be smeared both from the inside and outside before the owners received the fuel efficient stoves. Suzan went back and encouraged the participants to first improve on some facilities such as smearing their kitchens, shower areas, latrines and construction of the firewood storages before they get the improved stoves. She thanked everyone for attending the lessons and participating in the activities and the meeting came to an end.
