By the end of the lesson, the community members know what behavior is, that behavior is not easy to change but that sometimes it’s the only way to a healthier long life. By the end of the lesson, the community is aware of the different human rights of persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Notes
Lorna went to Naibowa where she was to teach on HIV and behavior change and also teach on HIV and human rights. However on Arrival she was met by three women who welcomed her but apologized that they had just received news of a prominent man who had passed on and the body was being brought to the village for burial. Lorna asked how long was it before they heard the news, they mentioned it was not long before the news spread. They apologized to Lorna and said β€œ bigwa bitalaze β€œ meaning β€œ some situations like this one happen without notice . It was unexpected but it happened. They went ahead and mentioned that even them they were just waiting to receive us and go to the funeral because when they are late they are fined a certain amount of money. It was quite unfortunate. Lorna then decided to meet the children where, we discussed the previous lesson where Lorna told them a story and asked what they learnt from it. The story was about listening to what they are told as children. We built from there and then went ahead with the lesson on values ofEducation. Lorna asked them what they wanted to become in future, pilot, gate keeper ( for shop keeper) , teacher, doctor , among others and we talked about what it takes for them to achieve this goal like Discipline. We focused on what Discipline is waking up early listening to elders, going to school and actually attending classes and not lying to their parents that they went to School and yet actually they were just playing. Lorna also asked the children what their parents do for a living and they mentioned farming. She asked how come none of them want to be one farmers?. She encouraged them never to minimize their parents jobs because that is what is taking care of them. Lorna also met Gerald who is in primary 5 and asked him to mobilize his friends in classes 5,6 and 7 on the next visit. Challenge Parents are sending even the real young children to study and so Lorna will group them up because then the older children just stand by onlooking because they feel too big to join the class. Even when I asked for 10 years and above , parents still send the underage.
