Notes
Irene went to Ituba Namalowe to talk about Urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDs. The meeting as always started with a word from the VHT who welcomed all the members to the health lesson, for sparing some time from their busy garden schedule since it’s a planting season, and for keeping their families safe from diseases. The VHT further thanked kibo for the support and sensitization its creating in Ituba community. He then welcomed Irene to say a word to the members. Irene thanked the VHT for always mobilizing the community members for the lessons, continues sensitization and follow ups on health related issues, made a review of the previous lesson and then introduced the lesson of the day. Irene gave a deference of all the three infections though all present with similar symptoms, unlike HIV, other STDs and Urinary tract infections can be treated, cured with no adverse effects if early treatment is got. HIV/AIDS has a lifetime treatment of which Irene explained to the members including the places from which they can access proper diagnosis and drugs. On addition to that the members discussed about the best ways of preventing these infections, from avoiding sharing objects that are in contact with body fluids like blood, sweat, those from private parts. Saida also suggested that since we are also acting as a voice from the Government we should request that they extend services to them through outreaches which were once active in their village so that even those with out money to go to hospitals for diagnosis and treatment can access the service from the community freely. Irene also encouraged the men to go for proper diagnosis especially in cases of HIV, also treating their partners and also to avoid sexual networks,so that they access drugs on time. This was because women complained that most men don’t want to go for HIV testing yet they have more than one wife with fear of getting positive results. Others treat themselves alone without treating their partners so they always get re- infections so the cycle of infection continues. With the interactive discussion mr Magala the village VHT explained to the members the symptoms of Gonorrhea in men of which he explained the one of them as pain on passing Urine with a thread like puss discharge that is continuous to come out with pain as one passes the urine. He also controls urge members to go for proper treatment to avoid under doses and improper treatment. On addition to that several members willingly shared their experiences with different STDs and UTIs which gave others confidence to go for medication.
