Notes
Lorna went to Naibowa village where she taught on HIV /AIDS and Behavior change. The meeting was opened by a word of prayer, remarks from the chairman Wilber and then Ismail took the group through the review of the previous topic before inviting Lorna to carry on with the meeting. Lorna greeted the community members and passed on her condolences for the loss of their fellow community member who passed on on the previous visit. In today’s lesson we were joined by 2 new people a Sheik and a Lydia. They both introduced themselves and then we proceeded . At the beginning of the lesson, one could see Sheiks face being disgusted by the topic being taught but towards the middle and the end he was the most involved which was good. In the days topic we looked at HIV and Behavior change. Lorna started by asking if one asked them what behavior change is and they mentioned in Lusoga “Eneyisa”. Lorna went ahead and asked another question if ones husband, friend or mother told them to change their manners what would come to their mind. Mama source mentioned that she would know that their is something she is not doing right and therefore needed to change. Lorna asked another question whether it was easy for someone to change behavior or whether it’s an easy thing to do. Naigaga who returned from Dubai before kick down mentioned 3 things that lead to behavior change ; friends, family, community. She went ahead and said the friends you have can either change your behavior for the best or worse. The same with the community and family one has grown up into.. After that Lorna asked the community to pair up and do two things 1. Tell each other that behavior they had once which was not good and how they overcame. 2. What behaviors they have changed in their homes concerning HIV/AIDS.. Lorna gave them 10 minutes to discuss and after that each group was to present the outcome of their discussions. Some of the behaviors that were mentioned were ; easily angered where Mutyaba Farouk about 20 years old mentioned that for a long time she struggled with anger ever since she was a child since childhood until she got into marriage but how she overcame without fighting is she would confront the person and try to resolve the issue when asked was it easy to change she mentioned no it took a while. Sheiks talked about being a womanizer which led the whole group into laughter.Judging from the community’s reaction, it showed he had a past with women but not anymore. Others were fighting, picking fights , not cooking on time ,On the other side about changing behavior related to HIV,we saw that the persons living with HIV to test their status always, eat a balanced diet, have one sexual partner, taking ARVs on time , use condoms, Avoid drinking Alcohol, smoking, Avoid stress, seek counseling among others. Sheik asked Pastor Wilber how it has been possible for him to keep himself ever since and he mentioned being faithful and keeping in God. The community members asked we continue with this lesson even on the next visit before moving to the next topic.
