Notes
Harriet went to Igerera A village to teach participants about the qualities of good leaders as well as guide them to chose their own leaders that will coordinate the healthy and safe kitchens program. This lesson was community centered that required active participation . As soon as she reached the participants gathered for the meeting, the meeting begun with an open prayer, then discussion on qualities of good leaders. The participants were asked to discuss the qualities of good leaders and these would lead them to choosing potential leaders for the program. After several discussions, one of the participants called Namusobya summarized all the qualities by saying that good leaders should be flexible, loving, command respect, conflict resolver, committed ,ready to work for the good of the village voluntarily and coordinate the program between kibo and the community. Harriet then asked the participants to participate in choosing their own leaders that would coordinate the healthy and safe kitchen program. She also encouraged them to be gender sensitive and to balance the village as the choose these leaders. At the end of the day seven leaders were elected and these involved four men and three women. Kibo staff Harriet thanked the community for participating in this encircle and asked the community to be cooperative with these leaders since they are the ones who have chosen them. She also left them with an assignment to think of the policies that will Govern the healthy and safe kitchens program and these will be discussed on in the next meeting.
