Notes
Diana and Martin went to Bulyowa A to teach the effects and solutions of domestic violence. We got when the community had already gathered waiting for the lesson. The chairman Mr. waiswa, opened with a word of prayer and thanked everyone for attending and keeping time. He told everyone not to forget that Covid exists. He told them to always put on their masks. The community agreed to his message. He welcomed Diana to take over from him. Diana thanked everyone for keeping time, and encouraged them to keep observing S.O.Ps. She also thanked Waiswa for being exemplary to the community of Bulyowa A., Before Waiswa was not in good terms with his wife, the wife would be in the lesson, but all the time she would stare at her husband rudely, Diana noticed this as she introduced the lesson of Domestic violence to the community, this was too weeks back. But this time after talking to Waiswa to sit down with his wife and find out why she is not happy, because it is the two of them who know what is disturbing them. Diana also told him that if they fail to agree they should invite one of the elders to help them solve their problems. Waiswa said that he will try out Diana’s idea of talking to his wife first, before involving the third party. In this meeting of community empowerment, he appeared with his wife, he was even carrying their baby, and he escorted the wife to take up her seat, this caused an applause from the rest of the members. This was a great indicator that Peace was restored in Waiswa’ home. They were really too happy. This was a great reward to community empowerment program. Diana encouraged the rest of the members to emulate the example of Waiswa and his wife. Diana took them through the recap of the previous lesson of causes of domestic violence. This lesson excites the community so much because it directly speaks to them. They actively participated in answering everything so well. It is from here that Diana told them that domestic violence has a lot of effects on the human being and the entire family. There is loss of property, death, divorce. Therefore they have to fight hard to see that these instances do not happen in their society. Diana invited Martin to take over. Martin asked them why did they get married, was it for good or or for worse. Wilberforce said that he got married to get company. Mpata said that he got married to get children, Sarah said, she got married to gain respect from the community. Martin thanked them for their brilliant answers. He told them that Marriage was ordained by God for procreation and companionship. Therefore, this cause has to be respected. He told the men to stop eating from hotels, because this annoys their wives, in chorus answers the men said that they have reasons for going to eat from the hotels. Margret asked which reason is that, all the women needed answers from men. Bwiire said that women are dirty, they take long to cook, they don’t welcome them. Martin told the despite all those accusations, they don’t have to eat from hotels, that hurts the women so much. He told the women to also welcome their husbands and look clean before them. This teaching went on. Diana promised the community that they will continue with the lesson in the next visit. This is because the topic of Domestic violence is big and it needs to be handled patiently, because people in this community are hurting because of the effects of domestic violence. The secretary Mr. Bwire thanked everyone for attending the lessons, and told the members that next time they should keep time.
