Notes
Harriet went to Igerera A village to guide participants to form policies that will govern the healthy and safe kitchens program. During the meeting she asked the participants to think / discuss the challenges that may affect the successful program implementation and together as a community to come up with possible solutions for such challenges Incase they happened. She also requested the participants to actively participate in the lessons because this program is community centered where by the community participates more as kibo staff guides them. One of the participants called Nairuba said that as the community the program leaders they choose should form policies that will will govern or guide them during the program implementation. Muhamood the program mobilizer told them that the leaders are their to work with the community as a team not to dictate on how the program should run and that’s why during the time of choosing leaders they asked every ones contributions and participation. Harriet advised them to be cooperative and not to leave very thing for the leaders to decide for them inside to guide them on how they want the program to operate in their village. Participants mentioned some of the challenges like poor time management for the meeting and by concession they agreed that meeting should always begin at midday .They agreed that every one should come to the meeting at that time but not to wait for the leaders to remind them. The leaders will only reach them incase there any change of the program. They also discussed about absenteeism and it was agreed that if some one absents him / her self with out a clear reason should pay a fine of Ugx 500. Namusobya suggested that in case a member has got a challenge like sickness should send a child to participate on his/ her behalf for the case of families with some old children, if not let him/ her communicate to the rest of the members and they will understand his / her challenge other than keeping quite. Also it was agreed that if some one absents him or herself for more than three times with out a clear reason, he/ she should be excluded from the program and if he / she has already got a stove it should be destroyed so that they all loose their energy used to build that stove. Harriet encouraged them to love and respect one another as well as to be committed to achieve the program goals in their community. Harriet also taught them about smearing and its importance and asked the participants whether they knew how to practically smear their home facilities or kibo staff should come back and demonstrate to them how to smear their home facilities. The participants said that they know how to smear, they promised to start smearing their homes that kibo staff will look at in the next meeting and proceed from there. This is because if they wait for kibo to come and demonstrate it will slow the time for them to get stoves yet they are in the great need.
