Notes
Maria and Irene were in Ituba Namalowe carrying out a door to door evaluation on pregnant mothers, hygiene of the homes, and all the health related issues in general. During the walk, we came across Joan a young girl who is 21 years old but having 3 children the oldest having 5,2,5 months residing in a very small hut which was very dirty, Irene and Maria advised her to always keep the home clean, and to come and attend the lessons so that she can learn more about health. Maria discussed with Sharifa on how many children she would like to have and Sharifa said that about 4 to 5 but Maria encouraged Sharifa to come and attend the health education lesson so that she can acquire knowledge about raising and caring for the children before she gets more children as per her plan. At the end of the short discussion, Sharifa together with the husband had both agreed to come and attend the next health education lesson. Still during our walk in this village, Maria and Irene came across another young girl who had 2 children, one was 1year and half old and the other was 6 months, this young mother is living with her parents, the compound was too dirty, the child also were dirty and miserable,Maria encouraged her to clean the compound to avoid the many diseases that can be spread to her children and Irene encouraged her to come in the health education lessons so that she can get more knowledge on how to keep the children healthy, taking them to hospital for checkups and immunization among others. We came across another young mother with a baby of 2 weeks, we found the baby crying so much, the place where she was sleeping with the child was dirty and the baby was not under the net, and Maria took her through the process of breastfeeding, how to hold a baby when feeding, bonding between the baby and mother while feeding and checking the hygiene of the baby in general. In general, the hygiene of the community is improving as compared to the first visits made The VHT thanked Kibo so much for the great work of promoting health education in their village, and the love that Kibo shows towards this village.
