Notes
Harriet went to igerera A village to follow up on smearing progress as well as teach the materials required for building stoves. She did not find the participants at the meeting place and she used this opportunity to walk to some homes to check on smearing progress. Interestingly she found when participants have started smearing their home facilities which is a good sign of commitment and showing how much they loved the program. Later on, participants turned up for the meeting, Harriet taught them the materials required for building stoves as termite dirt, grass, water, banana stems, a shovel for creating the vent, basin, hoes for digging the dirt, two old saucepans for creating cooking surface area, pangas for chopping grass and cutting banana stems. The participants agreed that these materials are freely and easily available in their community. Kibo staff reminded them that the program also aims at uniting the community therefore encouraged them to love one another because some one may lacking some of those materials in his/ her home and a neighbor can help him/ her in case they were in good terms. She also emphasized that the stove is built in a strong kitchen that is well smeared. During the lesson one of the participants called Mudofu asked that if some one did not have a kitchen, he/ she is an active participant who has no kitchen can the program build for him/ her the stove outside the kitchen and then later he/ she builds on it. Harriet told them that the programs aims at improving the cooking environment in a home therefore before one gets a stove he or she should build a kitchen where the stove will be built. She also added that this stove is built out of dirt, in case the stove is built outside the kitchen it can be rained on and it gets spoiled. She also encouraged those who are lacking kitchen to remain participating in the program as they work on their kitchen so that by the time they complete the members will be able to come to her home and build for him/ her a stove too.
