Notes
In March 2016, the Mvule community development program conducted all its activities in this village and even gave out 76 goats to 76 community members. The visit to this village is to assess the impact of the MCD activities in this village for the past 5 or so years now and this will help the Mvule program to make any future plans in the future. This is also to guide us to understand if really giving goats to every kibo village is a viable economic development project or if kibo group can review this idea and explore other activities. Alex is committed to visit about 10 villages that have previously received goats from Kibo group to asses the impact of Mvule activities. The chairman of the community members that received called Micheal testified that out of the 76 members that received goats, 12 members worked very hard and now have cows. Some people disappointed the community and sold off their goats after about one year claiming that there was no enough land to feed the goats and others sold off to pay school fees for their children at school. At first the community was doing very well when they had decided to keep their goats in one single shelter and taking them to graze them in the government reserve forest but after sometime, some bad people broke into the shelter and took off with some goats and this demoralized some members and that marked the beginning of their disorganization. Micheal and the village leaders continue to testify that kibo group managed to uplift their village and continue to appreciate all the kibo activities in their village. The new borehole that was recently drilled in the community by kibo group has been taken good care of and its still functioning with a very active committee in place. The Mvule trees that were planted have grown so tall now and some people’s musizi trees will soon be ready for harvesting. The village leaders were encouraged by Alex to keep the candle of kibo group burning in their community even in the absence of kibo group staff that will ensure sustainability and continuity of kibo activities. The village leaders also told Alex that besides rearing of animals, each engages in agriculture mostly growing of ground nuts individually in their gardens and opening up saving groups to save money for different purposes. However it was noted that the community wasn’t very active as it used to be before and Alex encouraged all the leaders to revive their strengths and help their community to prosper in addition to what kibo group has done. They were encouraged to get very organized and tap into the government new projects coming up
