Notes
Suzan went to the village to teach and follow up on kitchen safety and food handling safety. When she arrived there, she found the group chairperson and three other members at the meeting place who agreed to walk together around the village while visiting different homes. This was also an abrupt visit because Suzan wanted to find out if the members were effectively cooking on their new fuel efficient stoves or went back cooking on the three stones. Suzan found the women in their kitchens and began teaching about the qualities and importance of having a safe kitchen such as having a well smeared kitchen, well ventilated, swept with clean utensils. This will free them from various diseases and also improve on the sanitation and hygiene. Suzan also taught about how to safely handle food in the kitchen right from preparing the food, serving it warm and cleaning the utensils after consuming the food. Happily enough, most of the members found were very neat in their kitchens with all the utensils washed and spread under sunshine on their dish racks. Suzan encouraged other members to always cook on their improved stoves and avoid facing the previous challenges they had before while cooking on the three stones open flames. She also requested them to keep stocking enough firewood on the firewood storages so as to save time for other lessons. The members thanked Suzan for the lessons taught and wished her a safe journey back home.
