Notes
It rained the whole way to the village and in the middle of the journey Jane Wankuluna called Lorna on phone and mentioned to her that it was raining heavily and that if she hadn’t yet left, she should stay back but Lorna mentioned it was raining everywhere and that we shall sit in the church. Indeed we reached and it was still drizzling and we went straight to the church building. We waited for community members to come for the meeting and when a few members had come to the meeting , we decided to start. The secretary welcomed everyone and read out an agenda which had opening prayer, remarks from chairman and then Kibo staff would teach. After the chairman ,We started our lesson by a review of the previous topic which was the bridge model. Lorna asked for 2 volunteers to come and remind the other community members about this topic which was done well by one youth and mama malaika who was at first hesitant but managed to give a preview which was great. After this, we went to the topic of the day Decision Making- where Lorna asked what Decidion making is and one man mentioned “okusalawo”. Lorna mentioned that indeed we are looking at decision making and we mentioned that decision making refers to deciding what is right from what is wrong. Lorna asked the community that let us start by looking at some good and bad decisions. Various examples were listed like carrying out and Abortion and we looked at why it is considered a bad decision among which we saw there is loss of life, trauma among others . Others were marrying off our children while young, early pregnancy, Drinking too much Alcohol, doing drugs, stealing peoples land, theft , among others. We looked at good decisions like ; parents taking in their full parental responsibilities, setting goals for themselves and their families, not marrying of their children while young, educating their children both girls and boys. With all this we also looked at why they are good decisions. Lorna then mentioned that to make these decisions , we have to have some steps we follow for example; To think about that decision we are to make for example , the example of Abortion one has to think about the act whether it is right before doing it. Another step is to pray about the decision to be made, another was to think of ones religious background does the religion agree with for example ; Abortion, early pregnancy , theft , not taking care of ones family?. Seeking counsel or advice was another step for example before buying land, before marrying off ones daughter among others. Taking actions for ones decision. After the lesson, mama Malaika said she rarely speaks or comments in meetings but she stood up confidently and thanked Lorna through Kibo for the lessons taught to them and that it’s very unfortunate that the rain stopped most people from coming to the lesson but wished everyone would listen to this lesson. Another man thanked Lorna for being a very good teacher and also asked if Mosley’s can be considered due to the time because they would love to be part of the lessons too. We said we will try going earlier so that we have everyone attend the lessons. We therefore concluded that in our everyday walk of life we make decisions some easy and some hard but we need to consider every option in this case the steps so as to make right decisions . It can also include thinking how it will affect other people.
