Notes
Alex B and Alex W while in Buluvu village moved home to home carrying out tree inspection to all the community members that received trees from Kibo group. It was observed that many of the Mvule trees and musizi trees that were planted had died off due to a prolonged drought and also the bad sandy soils. Many of the people raised a concern that the trees dried because the drought set in quickly immediately after planting these trees. Out of the 200 Mvule trees delivered to Buluvu, less than 20% are surviving and out of the 200 musizi trees, less than 30% are still surviving. The other challenge has been that many people didn’t do a very good job to look after these trees during the dry spell which required people to water them at least twice a day. Many of the people also raised a concern that the sandy soils in their village doesn’t support the growth of the Mvule trees and musizi trees. However one community member called Charles has done a good job of planting trees in his land on top of what he received from kibo group. He received 12 Musizi trees from Kibo and 10 of them are surviving. He has since added more than 30 other trees in his land and he was encouraged to add extra care. He confessed that he has since developed a passion of planting trees in his land and he is telling his children to do the same and embrace tree planting in the land they have. He was appreciated by both Alexs and he would act as an example to rest of the community members to show that trees can grow even though its sandy soils the fact that if care is given, many trees can survive. Alex B and Alex W moved in more than 25 homes but realized that many people lost their trees and replaced none. Alex B and Alex W while carrying out this tree inspection, realized that there was a set back in sanitation and hygiene standards in many of the homes and continued to encourage the leaders and community members to replace the collapsed facilities. The borehole that was donated by Kibo group in this village three years ago wasn’t found in the required status and the water user committee was encouraged to quick act by replacing the broken borehole fence and instal new bearings and rubber buckets ASAP! It was resolved together with the community members to have a joint meeting with all community members to discuss more about tree planting and care. Also a new strong committee is required to lead this program since the existing has been seen to be weak and not doing a very good job mobilizing all residents to get involved in this program. The upper and lower community members need to come together and work together.
Next Visit

Program Success
Program Critical Needs
There is a big challenge that many of the community members lost their trees due to a long drought and bad soil texture.
Program Ownership
Other Program Observations
There was also a bit of set back observed in the WASH programs with less care to their borehole and some sanitation facilities in some homes were missing
Program Expected Of Village
The village leaders need to mobilize the whole community members for a meeting with kibo group Mvule staff during the next visit to iron out some challenges and agree on a way forward
Program Staff Preparations Next Visit
