Notes
Maria and Irene made a trip in Kalitumba. The chairperson thanked community members for their continuous turn up and love for all the Kibo programs, encouraging them to keep it up and also to inform other community members to come and be empowered with knowledge about health related issues. Mukama opened with a word of prayer. Then the chairperson welcomed Irene to say something to the members. Irene thanked members for coming, she made a review on the previous lessons asking members the different lessons they have so far learned. After Irene invited Maria to speak to the members. Maria started by introducing her name, then she introduced the topic to the members as Chicken pox and Measles. Maria and the members discussed the mode of spread ,signs and symptoms, the risk factors, prevention and treatment of both chicken pox and measles. Maria and the members discussed some of the differences between chicken pox and measles, Annet said that chicken pox comes with a big blister full of fluids while measles comes with small rashes around the body. And James shared with the members how they have been treating Chicken pox and Measles locally, smearing yellow banana around the body, taking row milk, and using herbs but Maria advised the members that the herbs used may be harmful to the body and some times prolong the state of infection which may become more costly and sometime result to death. She further advised the members to visit hospitals in case signs and symptoms discussed are observed. After the meeting Maria and Irene went to check on Hajirah a young mother Who gave birth to a bouncing baby safely from the hospital following the advise from the community health education lessons that she has been attending. Maria and Irene advised Hajirah to keep the home clean, cover the baby well so that the baby will not contract disease, sleep under a mosquito net, going back for hospital review, routine immunization of the baby and maintaining good body hygiene to avoid infections. Further still counseled her on family planning basically abstaining, the plan to go back to school and attain her dreams. The mother was so grateful for the support and words of encouragement and also promised to help with the baby.
