Notes
In the previous visit, it was agreed that each one brings someone to the meeting however, plan international a non profit organization was calling upon parents to pay 10,000/- so their children can get goats. Also still in the previous meeting Lorna was able to visit an old man who was sick and today Lorna was informed the community is just waiting for him to pass on and before the meeting started news reached us that the old man had passed on. Wakiso however apologized to Lorna and mentioned that these things are not planned but that she should teach the few who had come. An agenda was drawn, remarks were made from the acting chairperson and the meeting begun. We reminded ourselves of whatever transpired in the previous meeting and Lorna appreciated the volunteers who managed to teach their fellow community members on the HIV topic. Lorna mentioned that everything we learnt in the previous topic, we need to pass on to others including our children. However today, Lorna introduced a new topic Relationship Skills. Lorna mentioned that we cannot live our lives without relating with others. We have to have a relationship with friends, community, family and society as a whole. She went on to ask what is relationship skills and they mentioned when people are working well together. Mwase mentioned that to him a good relationship for example in a home is where both husband and wife respect and support each other together with the children. That’s what he understands by relationship Skills. Another mentioned that relationship skills refers to forgiveness. For him he understands that relationships require forgiveness for so relationship skills means forgiveness. Lorna mentioned all answers are right. After this Lorna mentioned we are going to look at the importance of having good relationships . Lorna asked if we can look at the importance of having good relationships with others. Some answers given were; when there is good relationship for example in a community there is development, it breeds peace when everyone is happy , it promotes friendships, it brings about unity. Lorna thanked them for their answers and mentioned some examples of evidence of good working relationships for example like when there is good relationships in a community , there will be low cases of early pregnancy, alcohol and drug abuse, good sanitation, low theft cases , no early marriages, neighbors not fighting each other because their cows accidentally ate their crops in the garden but their is negotiation, before taking issues in their own hands among others. Lorna also mentioned that we are also going to look at managing emotions and that in every relationship there are emotions involved but for this one we are going to loook at managing anger. When someone gets you angry how do you respond and just like we need to be good stewards of our finances even when it comes to our emotions we need to learn how to control them before getting our selves in trouble. In the next meeting we will look at managing emotions. The community members are excited about this topic because Lorna mentioned to them the sub topics in this topic . They promised to mobilize each other. Lorna left them with the homework on managing emotions.
