- Notes
- Alex met with the community leaders of Naibowa village to discuss about the impact of the kibo group activities in their village with mainly the Mvule community development program. A group of 58 community members received goats from kibo group back in 2014. The chairman of the group of people who received the goats, Henry told Alex that after the members received the goats, some people saw it as a personal reward from Kibo group and decided to do as they wanted and stopped attending the meetings which gave some people room to sale off their goats quickly. Out of the group of people that received goats from kibo group, only 10 people gained and got cows out of a goat they received from kibo group. The group became disorganized for quite some time until they had to remember that working together as a community was the only way to fight poverty. Their registration certificate with the government had expired when a community development officer (CDO) visited them in the year 2018 to evaluate their activities. This made them miss out on an opportunity that had come at that time from the government. They started to reorganize themselves once again and they started with an activity to save money together and help each other in times of death and happiness. In Naibowa, the community leaders told Alex that besides livestock, the other main activity in the village is farming and the youths involve themselves in brick making. This evaluation exercise is helping us to understand the impact created in the village out of the goats kibo group gives to people and also research about some other community potentials to help us plan for the future. Out of the three evaluation exercises conducted, there has been some successes registered mostly at a household level but also there are challenges that we have to address in the future for the villages that kibo group gives goats. There should more strict bylaws set by the community and kibo group to restrict community members from just selling off the goats any how immediately they have received from kibo group because it losses the purpose of giving goats to communities.
