Notes
Harriet went to Butabira village to follow up on stove building progress, firewood storages as well to mobilize the participants in upper section of the village to participate in the program. She found when the participants in the lower section had just built two stoves on their own and were good except one that they put the vent on the opposite side( next to the big surface area for the big cooking pot) . The participants in lower section had divided themselves into two groups whereby one group was entirely full of women while another group had some men and young boys. The group of men perfectly built their stove compared to the group of women. Kibo staff corrected their mistakes and advised the groups to mix whereby each group to have both men and women to balance the skill or to ensure that they all learn and to promote active participation. She also observed that most participants had firewood storages well stocked with firewood. Later she asked some participants to walk with her to the upper section to meet participants from there who were not actively involved in the program. These participants attended the theoretical lesson and when practical lessons begun, their participation slowed down. The participants told Harriet that they were disappointed by the participants in the lower section because when ever they chose some one to get a stove their chose from the lower section of the village which made them feel left out and resorted to withdraw from the program. The chairperson LC1 blamed these participants for quietly withdrawing from the program with out sharing what was hurting them. He also apologized on behalf of some members in the program who had selfish interest. Harriet reconciled the two parties asked them to work together to achieve development. After the meeting it was resolved that stove building exercise will now focus in upper section so that they also get some stoves. Participants in the lower section were asked to join kibo staff in the next meeting to build some stoves in the upper section. Kibo staff( Harriet) also asked the participants to be freely with each to share / discuss anything that may divide them as acommuniy. She asked them to always work towards being United. The participants thanked kibo staff for reaching out to them and reconciling them by finding out why they were not attending they equated this love to Bible story of the lost sheep. They said that they did not expect kibo to reach out to them since they were some people in the lower section participating. They promised to actively participate in the program from the beginning to the end.
