Notes
Maria and Irene went to Ituba Namalowe to teach about Measles and chicken pox. The VHT Mr. Magala welcomed everyone for the community health education lessons especially the new members who came as a result of the home to home visit we carried out. He then invited Zaitune to open with a word of prayer thereafter invited Kibo staff to speak to the members. Maria thanked all members for coming, welcoming the new members and then reintroduced her names and the organization to the new members. The topic was introduced as chicken pox and Measles. The discussion started with knowing the mode of spread, the signs and symptoms, and treatment of both chicken pox and Measles. Then Maria asked the members give a difference between chicken pox and Measles. Measles does not leave any mark on the body while as chicken pox leaves a black mark on the body said Aisha, and other examples as the members discussed. After the lesson Maria and Irene went to check on a young mother Agnes, Agnes is an active member in the health education lessons and during our last visit in this village, we encouraged her to smear the house, because the dust was too much causing the baby flue, taught her breast attachment and other postnatal activities so as to stay healthy with her baby. We found the house well smeared, the compound cleaned and the baby was resting peacefully in the house. Irene demonstrated on how to make the baby warm, postnatal exercises and return dates for review in the hospital. The mother asked several questions, which Maria and Irene answered and also encouraged her to expel excess gas from the baby’s stomach through burping after feeds, making cycle motions of lower limbs among others. Also the mother was encouraged to check her diet because some foods cause gas to the baby. with that the mother was so grateful for the visit and promised to try out on what was discussed and give a feedback when we return.
