Notes
Diana went to Bulyowa A to teach about the effects and solutions to school dropouts. The chairman mr. Waiswa welcomed the community. He thanked everyone for attending in person and encouraged them to always keep time. He thanked the community empowerment program for the lessons taught to them, because Bulyowa has greatly changed in hygiene character wise. He invited Diana to take them through the lesson of the day. Diana thanked everyone for keeping time. She started by taking the community through a recap. Patrick said in the previous lesson he learnt that sending children to school when hungry can make them drop out of school, Viola said that not escorting their children to school can land their children in bad company that can make them drop out of school, she went a head to encourage the fellow parents to always find time for their children by escorting them before they go for their daily duties. Diana thanked them for their good answers. She asked them to state some of the effects of school dropouts in their communities. James said that when children drop out of school they turn out to be unruly and join bad groups. Diana added on that the bad groups can include theft, involving in drugs. Moses said that children can end up getting married when they are young. Diana agreed with James saying that since children will be idle they will look at getting married as a solution of being out of school. Mutesi said that the children will not respect them since they will have failed their obligations as parents. Diana also told them that these children who are out of schools tend to be suicidal because their dreams become buried, they look at their age mates succeeding in life while they are seated at home. Diana called upon the community to reach out to these children, when they find them on the roads playing they should escort them to school. Educating a child should be handled collectively and that is giving children guidance and counseling them. Mentoring children should not be for only parents but for the entire community. Diana continued this discussion with the community. Love should be key in each person’s family as this will motivate the children to love school since they have loving parents. Diana told the parents that they should always find time to check on the performance of the children at school and check their attendance too. Diana continued with the discussion. Diana thanked the community for their active participation and encouraged them to keep up the same spirit. The Secretary Mr. Bwiire thanked Diana fo teaching them and they should continue empowering them. He thanked the community too for their time.
