Notes
Diana and Ida went to Bukudumira to continue with the lesson of school dropouts in particular they handled the solutions. As Diana and Ida waited for the community members to gather, they went around the community checking on the progress of the chicken program and also to find out how the community empowerment programs are doing. It is From here that we met Nabirye and her Peruth when they had just finished building the chicken coop. It is exciting to see how the community of Bukudumira has greatly improved. Women are now rearing chicken to fight poverty and also to avoid being a burden to their husbands. Nabirye said that, she is saving up for school fees. Come January when schools are opened, she will be safe. Her children will not be sent home. This was good news to Diana and Ida who encouraged her not to give up on her hard work. Diana and Ida later went to meet the community. They met the Kibo ambassadors who were eager to attend the lessons. Ida took them through a recap asked them what they remember from the previous lesson. Kigumba said that poor health, when children are hungry they cannot concentrate in class, therefore as parents they need to feed their children on time, they should also escort their children to school to avoid them lingering on the way. Ida responded that Kigumba is right, she encouraged the parents to make it their obligation to see the children at school everyday, Ida also added on that the parents should check the performance of their children at school and discuss with the teachers on the way forward of the child’s performance. Ida continued with the discussion as Diana joined in, she told the parents to always show love to their children, even if they are struggling in life, the love will keep them going. Diana also taught them that telling the children the truth about their family conditions also helps the children to stay focused at school. She also told them to be positive and avoid negative words to their children. Diana continued with this discussion with the community as members actively participated in lesson. Diana and Ida encouraged them to be vigilant on their children most especially when they are going to school, during school and after school. They also told them to provide necessities to the children, provide sanitary pads for the girls so that they are not mocked at school by other children.
