Notes
Purpose of the visit, Manuela went to Bulyowa village to teach about communication styles, this lesson is aimed at educating parents to know all the characteristics of communication styles that will help them to bring up theirs children in an Assertive. Manuela reached the village, found participants already seated waiting for her and ready for the lessons. Manuela greeted them and requested one of the participant to pray, after prayers, Manuela asked for each to send a representative to review the previous lessons, good each group managed to send and they were able to review the previous lessons, it was good. After that, Manuela asked the participants questions about the the homework she gave them previously, one of the participants, Moses said the homework was about communication styles, she also said that Aggressive, Passive and Assertive. Manuela asked them to explain in their local language, what it means , they were able to share their ideas, Manuela asked the participants what is Aggressive behavior, one man called Wakoo answered that it’s being rude, another person said that fighting a lot, Manuela asked them again that what is Assertive behavior and passive behavior, they sighted answers like keeping quiet, being bold etc. Manuela explained to them all the communication styles and requested for participants to demonstrate it. After brain storming, Manuela called for some volunteers to come and demonstrate the behavior of communication styles, she called for two young girls to act as students Halima and Muteci. Manuela told them that one is going to be Assertive and the other will be Passive. Manuela also called for a Rich man she told him that his job is try to stopping the young girls from going to school, the girl who acted in a Passive behavior was easily taken up by the Rich man, while the second girl was Assertive, the Rich man failed, he didn’t sussed, after the role play, Manuela asked the participants what to explain what behaviors did they they observed, they said that the first girl was Passive, accepting any thing the Rich man was giving her, she keeping quiet, seeing down and the second girl was Assertive, they said that, she was open and bold, she refused to listen to the Rich man. Manuela also asked them questions that, what behaviors do they want to live with and their children? Same said Aggressive and Assertive, some said Assertiveness and rest didn’t know which Communication styles to use , Manuela asked them why, they said, all the styles are good but they will try to practice and remain Assertive. Manuela asked them that, do they have people who behave aggressively, they said yes and they are many , then asked them how about Assertively, they said few and Passive also few, that mean the village is dominated by Aggressive people.Manuela encouraged them to practice Assertive behavior because it’s the beast way of communication styles. Finally Manuela appreciated them for coming in large numbers and encouraged them to continue encouraging others to come and study, then she gave home work on the importance of critical thinking and gave them salt , (community incentives tools.)
