Irene went to Naisamula village to talk about Pneumonia and diarrhea. The chairman welcomed all the members, giving a reminder of continued monitoring of their pit latrines because of the rains that may have weakened them, planting plenty so that they don’t get to lack during the dry season and continuing to talk to their children about abstinence. He then welcomed the health educator to say something. Irene welcomed all the members, thanked them for their continued turn up for the health lessons, and embracing Kibo in their village. Irene continued to make a review of the previous lesson, here after introduced the lesson of the day. Asking questions about pneumonia on the cause, prevention and treatment, members gave the different views. Klovesi said in children it’s commonly caused by prolonged exposure to cold especially during the night because most homes are not well ventilated, lack beddings to keep them warm because they are too poor to provide.Further still the members discussed the other causes and on how to prevent pneumonia,Homes should be well roofed, well smeared, parents should save some money on the little they get to buy warm thick beddings for their family. Irene still discussed the cause of diarrheal diseases in homes and hygiene was the major emphasis because with poor sanitation and hygiene one talkes in bacteria through all that is put in their mouth. From water, food, and hands as the major source of bacteria. With different views from members on causes and prevention members were taught how to make oral rehydration salts from salt and sugar which act as first aid as one prepares visit the hospitals for treatment in cases of severe diarrhea. After the general meeting of all the community members, Irene talked to the different groups of men alone and women alone as the community had requested during the STI/HIV lesson because the members were shy to talk about it with their children around. Irene discussed the women issues with their girls and with this the members discussed about general body hygiene, infections in women, behavior of a girl child, abstinence, and cultural rituals where girls requested their parents to stop forcing them to do some cultural practices like labia elongation of which they say it’s he leading cause of early sexual practices in girls. Irene also talked to the men and boys of adolescent age and still discussed about their general health and grooming. Peer pressure being the number one cause of early parenting in young adults was discussed among other causes and how to avoid them. Because of time the members requested that they continue with this discussion in the next visit so as to get detailed solutions.
