Notes
Tape made a surprise visit to follow up on stove usage and food handling safety. She reached in the village unexpectedly and started walking home to home to follow up on the program facilities. She walked through over 20 homes of the healthy and safe kitchen participants. Interestingly most homes were found cooking on their stoves on daily basis, had their kitchens well arranged, swept and clean. In some homes they found food cooking by itself as other families were busy in the garden weeding their plants since it’s now a rainy season. Some participants told her that because of the stoves they always eat well cooked, warm food. The women said that after serving food the left over are left on the stove which keeps it warm and prevents the flies from sitting on it that may cause diseases like diarrhorea. They also said that because of the stove food gets ready so fast and there is improved hygiene in the kitchens as they also smear their kitchens and remove the ash from their stoves on daily basis.
