Health lesson 14: Domestic Violence
Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to continue teaching about causes of domestic violence. She first asked the community members to tell her the meaning of domestic violence. Nankwanga Alice said that domestic violence is marred couples fighting. Mokoda Sylvia said that domestic violence is children fighting their parents for inheritance. Ida thanked the members for the answers and encouraged the rest to also participate because that’s part of the lesson. Ida defined domestic violence as a form of violent behavior inflicted on the victim. It is also an act of physical violence, sexual, psychological or economical violence that may be committed by a family member or intimate partner. After defining domestic violence, Ida asked the members to mention the causes. Bamuwani Tape said that poverty has contributed a lot in increasing domestic violence. Naisanga Rehema said that untidiness also causes domestic violence. Mugote George said that unfaithfulness. Kyokali Annet said that rumors. How does poverty contribute towards domestic violence? The discussion started: Bamuwani Tape saiid that when a man is poor, he cannot provide for the family which results into quarrels all the time and might lead to fighting Rehema said that untidiness has caused marriages to break. If a woman is filthy, everything at home is filthy, the wife, children, bedroom, kitchen etc which makes a husband tired of his own home at he starts looking somewhere for clean girls. Mugote also defended his answer of unfaithfulness. If couples are not faithful to each other, divorce is most likely to happen and children will Start going to streets in town trying to run away from the violent parents. Annet talked about rumors, women do this frequently at boreholes when drawing water. Talking falsely about anyone, can cause fights, hatred, confusion and can cause imprisonments. Ida gave a verse from Ephesians 4:29. Ida encouraged the community members to work hard in order to reduce or stop domestic violence in their homes by not doing all the things they mentioned above. Anthony Tatyaise encouraged members to Love one another because Love is a key to Peace.
