Notes
Diana went to Bulyowa A to teach about the causes and effects of early marriages. Diana found the community already gathered, ready for the community empowerment lessons. The chairperson Mr. Waiswa welcomed the the community members and thanked them for attending in person. He went ahead to commend the community empowerment program for the good work offered to them. He testifies that there is a great change in his community. Wilbur the vice chairperson also added that when he looks through his community, he sees that families are living in unity, the children who were unruly, are now turning to be good children. They respect their parents, they do house chores. Sharon said that, her children are now active, they do house chores. Mr. Bwire the secretary thanked the community empowerment program. He said that they are living in harmony in their families. Diana thanked everyone for the good reactions towards Kibo programs. She told them that their comments keep them going. Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson. Mbeiza started by thanking the community empowerment for bringing peace to her family. Her family is now living happily. She said that in the previous lesson, she learnt to escort her children to school and be there for them, she also learnt that girls need to be given necessities including sanitary pads. Paul said that he learnt that children should be loved and that parents have to know the friends of their children. Diana thanked them for their brilliant answers. She introduced the lesson of the day, which was the causes and effects of early marriages. Paul said that poverty has made many girls to get married. Diana added on that it’s true poverty leads to early marriages because parents want to get quick money to bail them out from their problems. Harriet said that peer pressure is also another cause of early marriages, Diana explained that it’s true peers can convince their friends to join their groups which can make them to indulge in early sex as away of exploring, hence making them get married at an early age. Diana continued this discussion with the community members. Diana went a head to ask the community what could be the effects of early marriages. Margret said that children can get sexually transmitted diseases. Diana told the community that Margret is right, children can get HIV AIDS, giving parents another burden of taking care of them. Diana also told them since these children are young, they can easily die during child birth or get fistula. Diana continued with this discussion with the community. The community thanked Diana for enlightening them on the causes and effects of early marriages. The beauty of it all is that the community was interactive and they enjoyed the lesson. The chairman mr Waiswa thanked the community for attending in person and keeping time.
