Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B, to continue with the solutions and evaluation of domestic violence in this community. The community had already gathered and ready for the community empowerment lessons. The community on seeing Diana started dancing right away, it was a beautiful moment. Diana put music for them and she danced along with them. The people who were quiet also became happy, this moment bonds the community. Yudaya the chairperson opened with the word of prayer and thanked the community for keeping time. She then invited Diana Diana also thanked the community for being vigilant and for the joy they shared amongst themselves. She encouraged them to keep up the spirit of happiness, because it will keep them young. Happiness is medicine for the body. Diana told the community that if there are people who are not in good terms with their neighbors or friends, they should make amends with them. Because life is too short to waste it with anger. Diana now opened up the discussion, she told them to react on Madina’s complaint on men selling rice and bringing for them empty bags to keep, not even a half a kilogram of meat. Sofia said that it is true men in their community disrespect the women so much, they share the money they have worked for with different women. The group of women roared saying it is true. Diana calmed them down and told them we are looking for solutions. James responded saying that the women are lying, in most cases the men buy food for the house holds even the women when they get their money, they don’t share it with them(men). This caused another chorus from the women. Diana told them that it is healthy for them to pour out their pain, because it is the road to healing. Isabirye said that it is true some men are irresponsible and he told them that for him with his wife they share their money together and it has promoted peace in their home. Mbabali responded to Isabirye saying that, it works to him alone. Diana responded saying that everyone has to know the reason as to why he or she got married. Diana went on to say decision making in the family is key, each party needs to know their role in the family. Diana also added on that men need to take care of their wives, because the women always pray for their husbands to be blessed, depending on how they are treated. Diana told the men that when their wives are not happy, their “pockets” also will not be happy. They knew what Diana meant. Diana continued with the this discussion with the rest of the community and promised to conclude it on her next visit. The chairperson person Yudaya thanked the community for being patient and active in the lesson. She urged them to keep up the same spirit.
