Notes
Maria went to Nawandyo A to teach about menstrual hygiene and skin infection. The discussion started by a review on the previous lesson which was personal hygiene and oral care, members shared how they have put it into practice, Shamila said that after the lesson, she taught all her family members how to clean their bodies from head to toe, demonstrating how to brush their teeth and also shared the dangers that may arise if someone has not improved his or her personal hygiene. Then Maria introduced the topic as Menstrual hygiene and skin infection. Members together with Maria shared the proper menstrual hygiene, what may result in case of poor menstrual hygiene, the different types of skin infection, how it is spread, how to prevent, how to treat it. But Annet said that most of the village women lack what to use during that period ( sanitation pads), she said men do not support them in terms of providing sanitary pads. Dan also said that some women don’t tell their Men when that period comes, girls who are still in school going age miss school for sometimes 1 week because they fear to be ashamed especially when it stains, said Nandego a primary school teacher. Maria advised the men to be supportive economically, buying sanitary pads to both the mother and the daughter and even associate with them during this period. Still members where encouraged to learn how to make disposable pads, and in case of any infection to go to hospital for treatment. Furthermore, members together with Maria discussed the different types of skin infections, mentioning them one by one, causes, prevention and treatment. Members were encouraged to improve on their personal hygiene as this helps even the people around you like the children. The meeting ended with a word of prayer from Mr. Muhamed.
