Notes
Alex B,Alex w and vet doctor met the community members to teach about how to care for the goats. The vet doctor mostly taught them how to do it in order to get good offsprings. The meeting began with prayer and their after the secretary Mr. Moses thanked the community members for turning up at the meeting. Moses asked the community members to continue working on the requirements as it was agreed on before goats are given to the community. He encouraged them that even though it was period for harvest of the groundnuts, but also they should spare time for meetings whenever called upon. Alex B continued to emphasize to the community about the three major issues for caring of the goats. He told them about a grazing place ,place where they stay after grazing ( shelter) and how to be treated when they are sick. Alex W told the community to finish up with the requirements in their homes since enough time was given to them .He told them as it was necessary for their hygiene in the homes and safety from diseases and sickness. The vet doctor mr.Walube Joseph told the community members for bearing in mind to look after the goats that will be given to them by Kibo Group. He told them that goats need to stay in good and conducive place .The place should be clean and also not wet. The grazing place should be also enough for the goats. He added that goats need to be dewormed monthly, mostly during rain season. The grazing time is better when the grass is not wet.The goats are selective while grazing. He advised them to always report to the leaders of the community when they realize that their goats are not doing good.He also gave general knowledge about how to care for other animals and birds since that is his profession and background . Community members raised some questions like Mrs Jalia asked that why some goats after delivering do not have enough milk for the young one. He responded by saying that mostly it’s poor Feeding and bad place to sleep in. When the goat is the pregnant, it needs extra care and should be well fed until it gives birth. He advised them that goats need to stay about two to three feet above the ground in it’s shelter. The veterinary doctor indeed gave professional advise to all community members making sure that all people understand how to look after their goats. He responded to all the questions that the community members asked about how to care for their goats. The community members thanked kibo group for giving them the opportunity to hear from a veterinary doctor giving them advise about how to take care of their goats. The community members were left the task of completing to construct their goats shelters for the very few people left and the also finish their sanitation and facility standards in their homes. All the community members promised to meet all the required standards within a week and surely there were great improvements observed in the homes. The community leaders were given the assignment to go to all the homes and ensure that everyone meets the standards before Kibo’s next visit to Bupaluka.
