Notes
Enock and Keneth made a visit to this community to conduct a hand washing triggering session in this village. When they reached the village, they met with the local leaders who they walked together to the meeting area to wait on the residents to come for hand washing triggering. As the y waited for the community members to attend, Enock walked around the area while mobilizing the other members to attend the triggering session, after about an hour, 61 residents had arrived at the meeting area to learn from the wash team. The meeting was opened by the chairman of the village, welcomed the Enock and Keneth to teach the residents the new program of hand washing and trigger the mind of the community members to understand the core values of washing hands with soap as well as learn how to construct a good hand washing stand made of cement, sand and bricks. As we started the session, they asked questions to the residents like show hands to your neighbors and see if hands are clean, most of them answered that they where clean. They asked another question of which diseases are spread through our hands, answers like diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, trachoma and other diseases. Triggered the residents on how they transfer germs from one place to another as well as how they eat feces from their hands due to poor the anal cleansing materials, scratching and smelling, charcoal smearing, baby napkins and Nappies, shit and shaking of hands without washing, food sharing as well as dirt under figure nails. We then called for some volunteers to come and demonstrate how to wash hands with without soap, and wash hands with soap and then Rinse hands. We poured the water in the polythene bag and showered the residents on see clearly why it’s really important to wash hands with soap. The people saw how they have been eating feces due to poor hand washing behaviors and how it’s important to use soap and clean their hands to kill germs. The people promised to change after they hand learnt the core values of hand washing. They also promised to teach their children to use soap while washing hands or other detergent like Omo and liquid soap. After we demonstrated to the residents how to construct a hand washing stand and the residents liked the new modal of bricks, cement and sand.
