Notes
Harriet and Tape together with the CDO were in Nawampiti village to give incentives to the active participants in the healthy and safe kitchens program. They reached in the village and found when the participants had already gathered at the meeting place. Kibo staff, the community and the CDO first walked around the village to see what the community has done together with Kibo group. Interestingly most participants had smeared their home facilities decorated with words praising kibo group , they were cooking on their stoves on daily basis this was evidenced by the absence of three stones fire in the kitchens and finding food cooking by itself or being attended by children. Later own they all gathered for the meeting . The chairperson LC1 thanked kibo for the good work done in their village right from sanitation and hygiene , life skill education and counseling program, healthy and safe kitchen program and Community healthy Education program. He requested kibo to continue working with them in their village . The healthy and safe kitchen program chairperson Mr. Waiswa Moses thanked kibo for the program that has improved marriage relationship because men and women now cook food together due to the absence of smoke, their kitchens now look clean and neat because the stoves use less firewood thus produce less ash that is easy to clean on daily basis, she added that the program taught them how to smear their home facilities that now look neat attractive. She also sighted that the program taught them how to construct firewood storage stands that they stock firewood on to use during the time of scarcity like rainy season thus less stress. He added that the total number of stoves in Nawampiti village are now 44 stoves. One of the community member Mr. Bageya said that before the stove in his home, he used to loiter in the trading center leave his wife struggle to cook food in a Smoky environment but now he stays home , cook food with his wife because the stove has provided a conducive atmosphere in the kitchen. One of the youth Samuel said that kibo enabled him learn how to build stoves and he plans to market his skill in the neighboring communities to earn money. Kibo staff Harriet thanked the community for the cooperation and team work that has helped them to achieve success. He also thanked the men and the youth who actively participated in the program. She added that because of the community’s hard work and teamwork , kibo has given each member a bar of soap to use as an individual and two community saucepans that they can use as a group during functions or even rent them out to other people and the money will be brought back to the group.Kibo staff together with the CDO handed over the soap and saucepans to the participants. The participants were very exited and thanked kibo for the endless love that they have always shown them and promised to continue working together. The Community Development officer Mr. Hillary thanked Kibo for partnering with the government to work with this community to change positively. He said that for Him as part of the Government ,kibo has helped them to achieve what they could not achieve due to limited funds. He urged the participants to think of other resources that they can pull together to add on these saucepans to achieve further development. He also asked them to maintain and sustain all the facilities including the stoves, kitchen, firewood storages and smearing. He also encouraged them to stay cooperative, market their skill to build stoves in the neighboring communities and bring the money back to the Group. He also committed himself to always follow up with them to see whether they have sustained those facilities. He also reminded the couples to remain peaceful in their marriage treat each other as partners because what hinders development is Domestic violence.
