Notes
Purpose of the visit, Manuela planned to go to Kagulu village to teach about how HIV is transmitted from one person to another and how HIV can be prevented. This lesson was aimed at educating participants the difference ways through which people catch the virus and how they can prevent them selves from catching the virus too. Before heading to the village, Manuela called the chairman again reminding him that she is about to leave for the village, the chairman said it’s okay. Manuela reached the village found chairman seated at the meeting place, Manuela greeted him and asked him where are the participants? He said they are coming, Manuela and the chairman waited till Manuela told chairman that let us go move around and re mobilize the participants, reaching on the ground, Manuela and chairman found kids, they asked the kids that where are your parents? they responded that they went early at 6:00am to harvest peanuts for one of the Rich man around the village, the chairman was disappointed , he told Manuela that he and the VHT mobilized the community members, but one of the women whom we found at home said that when chairman finished to mobilization, than the Rich man also came telling community members that tomorrow is the day for harvesting peanuts and the basing is seven hundred shillings. Manuela thought that maybe the community members decided to do in favor for the money. As Manuela and the chairman were moving home to home, Manuela found a 15 years old girl carrying a one month old baby, Manuela greeted her and asked her how is the baby? She said good, she asked her how about the father of the baby, how is he? She kept quiet, shedding tears, Manuela told her it’s okay you will tell me on another’s day. Manuela continued moving she found two young girls, 15 years, Manuela asked them how are you? As I don’t see in my class, they said we are new in this village. Manuela asked them in which school and classes are you? They laughed and said we are married but before COVID we were in primary six. Manuela did not ask more because she never wanted them to be embarrassed, but she told them to come for the life skills lessons. They said not today maybe next week because they are tired from the garden. After that, Manuela moved back to the meeting place where she found only seven women, Manuela told them that she is not going to teach them but she encouraged them to tell the others that they will continue with the planned lessons next week. Manuela also told the chairman and the HHT to be serious about this program, she told them that if she happens to call to find out about the nature of the village, they should be honest and tell her the truth about the the village before she travels because she will not be fueling a car to come and failed-to teach.
