Notes
The WASH program has been in this village since 2018, the sanitation in the community was very poor as the community members were getting water from the nearest swamp which caused many outbreaks of diarrhea and other water and sanitation related diseases, Kilwanire has 114 homes which were depending on a very distant borehole of about four kilometers away, for that reason WASH and the government partnered in the process of sensitizing the community about improving sanitation in the community before they could drill a new borehole in the community. After realizing that 99% of the households had all the sanitation facilities in their homes, Steven recommended for the drilling of a new borehole in the community. While in the community, the community members who had already assembled at the drilling site were so excited and happy that finally the community was about to get a new bore hole actually some members had come along with their jerrycans ready to fetch and taste the new fresh water, Steven briefed the community leaders and members how the process will go , the Chairman of the community Mr Hamza thanked kibo for first of all improving the sanitation standards in his community and secondly thanked kibo group for providing water source to the community, there was jubilations and celebrations from community members, women , men, boys and girls when they finally saw the borehole engineer Mr Godfrey and his team were assembling the machines ready to drill the borehole. No sooner had the drilling process started than the drilling chain broke down, it took some hours trying to repair but unfortunately the mechanic failed and decided to wield the chain, by the time it was ready it was very late that Steven and the engineers decided to extend the exercise of drilling to next day (Saturday), the community members were so disappointed because some of them had carried jerrycans hoping they would carry some water back home however Steven encouraged them to be patient and wait for the next day , he pleaded to them to keep the machines safe, some members pledged to stay awake and kept the machines all night until Saturday when the drilling process would commence. Steven told the community leaders to mobilize the members to contribute brick ,cement and sand to build the borehole wall fence and embarked on the journey back to jinja to prepare for the next day of drilling.
