Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to the lower section of Butabira village to follow up on firewood storages construction and usage and stove usage because there were some participants who were lacked firewood storage stands or had not stocked them with firewood and others were using their stoves along side the traditional three stones fire which would expose them to challenge like children being burnt. She reached in the village and teamed up with the chairperson LC1 Mr. Buyinza Patrick to walk to the home of the participants to check progress. Interestingly most participants had constructed strong firewood storage stands which was neat to see, some who had not stocked them with firewood,Harriet encouraged them to cut wet wood and stock it on their firewood storages so that heat in the kitchen will help them to dry Up . This will also help them to reduce on firewood stress during the rainy season. Also those ones who had not yet constructed firewood storages were encouraged to do so. As far as stove usage is concerned most participants had abandoned the traditional three stones fire and resorted to cooking on the fuel efficient stove which was nice to see. However they had left them in their kitchens which would tempt them or their children to cook on them thus leading to challenges like fire accidents and smoke in the kitchen.Harriet asked them to take out the traditional three stones. During the follow up,one woman Nangobi rose a concern that her mother in law believes in African traditional religion which doesn’t allow her to eat fish or to eat food cooked on the stove that has ever cooked fish. She told Harriet that she uses the traditional three stones fire to cook fish only which is not even cooked daily to avoid violating the mother in law’s Faith. Harriet could not discourage so much the mother in law’s Faith but encouraged Nangobi to build the second fuel efficient stove in the same kitchen to take care of fish in case they are to cook. Nangobi promised to work with the rest of the group members to build the second stove.

Harriet asked her to take them out of the kitchen to avoid children being tempted to cook on them and also to create enough space in the kitchen.
