Notes
Suzan and Tape went to the village to follow up on the stove building progress, construction of the firewood storages and the stove usage especially for those who had began cooking on their efficient stoves. When they got there, they were warmly welcomed by the community with joy especially now that they have received water in their village. Together they first sat down and discussed about the program activities and it’s progress so far. The group chairperson Gerald on behalf of the community reported that they were so grateful for what Kibo group has done for them by drilling a borehole in their community which they less expected. He said now that they received water, they will be ready and comfortable enough to continue attending the remaining Kibo programs. Although the stove building lessons were moving at a slow pace, other activities were going on such as smearing of the buildings, construction of the firewood storages and other sanitation facilities. Together they got up and began walking house to house while monitoring all the program facilities. Some participants had built very good firewood storage stands and those whose stoves had turned one month had started cooking on them. Kibo staff kept on encouraging the members to repair and maintain their sanitation and hygiene facilities such as the shower areas, latrines and dish racks as much as possible. They also encouraged them to be cooking on their new improved stoves on a daily basis so as to get rid of the previous challenges they faced while cooking on the traditional three stones open flames. It was also reported that the members from the upper section of the village got interested in the new fuel efficient stoves after seeing their fellow members from the lower section cooking on them. They kindly requested to extend the lessons to their section since it was a long distance between the two places. Kibo staff members made an appointment with some committee group leaders to go and meet with the members from the upper section and discuss the way forward to get involved in the stove building lessons.
