Notes
Chris and Alex walyomu went to this community to continue with discussions on economic activities, last week’s discussions ended when members requested for a general meeting to decide on which amount to contribute , while some members said 500 shillings was okay, others said it was too much for them that is the reason they needed to first agree. Chris also had assigned the committee members to research on how much the onion growing project will cost so that they can budget well. While in the community the Chairperson Mrs Kasoga Norah reported that the community had a meeting on Monday where they agreed that everyone should contribute the 500 shillings, they all agreed that no one in the community can fail to get the 500 shillings unless they are monitoring committed towards the development of the community. The chairperson thanked the community members for cooperating and for participating during the discussions and encouraged them to at least say something during the discussions inserted of them just keeping quiet, she also reported that they did research on their project however the secretary was not around to present the budget but she promised to call the community members for a general meeting on Monday to dissect the project budget to everyone. The treasurer Mr Salumini also reported that he had so far contributed 47,000 shillings towards their project , he encourage members to keep on contributing because the community group has a lot to accomplish which includes buying books of record keeping, registering the community at the sub county and starting their project as soon as possible Mr Salumini stated that the community needed to buy a book for recording names of all the members and the trees they have planted so far. The chairperson Mrs Nora suggested to members to decide whether they deduct the money to buy the book from the contribution of the economic project or they contribute for the book. However the Treasurer cautioned the community members to find out how much the is the budget the community project before they can think of reducing the money from the project account, Mr Musenze suggested that the treasurer should go ahead to buy the book from the project contributions since they are expecting more money because members are still contributing anyway meanwhile the chairperson suggested they first come for the next general meeting to discuss about the budgeting before they can proceed with buying scholastic materials for the community group. Chairman of the community , he thanked Kibo for facilitating the meeting were the community meets and talk about their community ,encouraged them to look back were Kibo picked them. The chairman stated that all Kibo programs focus on sustainable change therefore members should have long term plans , the Chairman used a Lusoga proverb which says that “Ndifa idho : tatereka nsigo” which literally means that “ those who think of dying tomorrow will never store enough grains “ he added that when shortsighted people will never have long term plans that is the reason many members were living a hand to mouth kind of life. The chairman encouraged the community members to invest in long term projects which will benefit the next generations, he encouraged the community members to love one another and educate their children too. Chris thanked the chairman and promised to continue with lessons on economic activities next week.
