Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B to teach about the advantages and disadvantages of bride price. Diana got when the community had not yet gathered. She decided to move around to see what really kept the community members busy. Diana met members at the home of Zubairi who was taking them through the steps of preserving coffee and how to dry it well in order for it to produce good results. This was capturing as Diana also joined in to learn how they pick coffee and dry it. Diana joined them to show them that she is greatly in support of their economic activities. Diana thanked them for being innovative. She went on to tell them that as Kibo, they are solely in support of their ideas to carry out economic activities. She told them that It is a good thing to work for their children and families. Diana went on to say that it is ashaming to beg for salt, match box, and yet they can sell some of their produce to buy these necessities. Mutyabule agreed to what Diana was telling them. He said that it is embarrassing to be a beggar and urged everyone to work for their families. Susan made a phrase in the Bible, that those who do not work, they should not think of eating. Jamiru said then they should die, which caused some members to laugh. Diana later told them that she had come to teach about the advantages and disadvantages of bride price in the community of Nawandyo B. James shouted that it is the wealth they get when their daughters are married off. Diana responded to James saying that it is wrong to take their daughters as commodities. Diana told them that yes bride price is good it should be used consciously, because it bonds the two marriage partners, it brings honor and prestige in the family. However this bride price can make some ladies stay in an abusive marriage, because they think that their lives/ marriage depend on the gifts that were given to their parents. Too much bride price has made some men to stay single. Diana continued with this discussion with the community. The community was happy that Kibo group was in support of what they do for a living. They said that the lessons have greatly transformed their community. Their families are living in harmony. Sarah said she works together with the husband to prepare the school fees for their children next year.
