Notes
Tom visited Namutumba district to meet with the water officer to discuss about the details of the trading center borehole on Kisimu trading center before moving to the village to check on sanitation improvements and facility constructions. The district officer gave Tom a hand pump mechanic of the area and Together they moved to Kisimu village. On teaching the village, they found the chairman settling some disputes between some village members. The chairman suggested two of his committee representatives to move with Tom and the hand pump mechanic. They moved to the lower section of the village were they observed and saw new hand washing stands recently constructed with the jericans on them. Tom noticed that one facility the dish rack is not being worked on as much. In most homes that they visited but lacked a dish rack, Tom spent time teaching and encouraging the residents to construct the dish racks to improve on their sanitation and hygiene in their homes. Tom also encouraged residents to maintain and continue embracing hand washing. From the lower section they mentioned fed to the upper section in the trading center and while they moved, they reached the trading center borehole. The borehole had so many people especially children who had come to collect water. The day was so hot but people were standing so that they are able to get water. Some of the people at the borehole requested the hand pump mechanic to help them get another borehole from the district. He told them the only boreholes are allocated other villages. Many around the borehole felt sad but expressed their desire for a new well because the one present is very busy. Tom encouraged the residents at the borehole to always wash their jericans so that the water they are taking home stays clean and safe. Tom also encouraged the committee members to also encourage members in the trading center to also embrace hand washing and construct hand washing stands.
