Notes
Irene went to Naisamula village to teach about Alcohol and drug abuse. As Irene was waiting for the members to come for the meeting, she talked to one of the members whom she had reported about in the previous report who had defaulted on her ARVs but had promised Irene that she will resume. So this time she told Irene that she was so grateful for the advise Irene had given her on adherence because when she went back the her CD4 count had was low and the viral load was going up which the doctors said wasn’t a good sign. She was worried at first but the doctors counseled her on adherence and if she doesn’t default again the viral load will go down. So with Irene they further discussed on drug effects and refills. The meeting started with a word from the VHT who thanked all the members for turning up each time they are called upon, and their contribution towards the cement for building the slabs. He then asked Irene to say a word to the members. Irene thanked everyone for the turn up, encouraged the members to well come all the other programs,to put in practice all that has been covered, and always visit the hospital for proper diagnosis. After a recap of the previous lesson Irene introduced the lesson of the day as alcohol and drug abuse, asking the members the meaning of significant words like alcoholism, and drugs, giving signs of alcoholism, health, physical, social, effects of alcohol and drugs and also discussing some of the experiences members with alcoholics or drug abusers have gone through. Klovesi the mobilizer gave the experience he had with his late son who was so much into alcohol that it destroyed his liver and kidneys, he said when he got sick and taken to hospital it was too late to save them and the charges of transplants were too high that he died, Sara also said her first husband was a problem in their home because each time he came back drunk she would be beaten in front of the children and the children would also be kicked so she gave up on that marriage and is now with her children as a single mother. So with several experiences from members about how dangerous alcohol and drugs were, members urged each other to be vigilant especially with their teenage children and advise them to avoid peer pressure, monitor the friends they move with and to always stay a way from alcohol and drugs. After the discussion Irene informed the members that they were coming to the end of health lessons in Naisamula village and another program was to come and take over so she encouraged members to continue with the spirit of love that they share.
