Notes
Harriet tagged along with Martin kibuuka to Namusita village to introduce the healthy and safe kitchens program to the community leaders. This was for easy transition of kibo activities in this village as well to help the community understand that both WASH and HSK are kibo programs. It was also the right time since WASH will soon phase out of the village. Martin introduced Harriet to the local leaders and asked Harriet to introduce herself and the purpose of her visit in the village. She first thanked the community for being cooperative with kibo staff especially in WASH program. She added that Kibo plans to add them another program ( the healthy and safe kitchen program) that aims at empowering them with knowledge and skills of improving the hygiene status in their kitchens through teaching lessons like smearing, firewood storages and stove building and usage. The program also aims at improving marriage relationship whereby men and women will be able to work together as they cook food for the family. It will also reduce cases of fire accidents accidents, firewood stress among others. The local leaders were very excited about the program and said that there is an increased thefts for firewood since there no more forests in the village and every household needs firewood to cook food. The chairperson LC1 said that the main culprits are women and a few women who were there supported the chairman’s argument. He therefore said that on behalf of the community he is welcoming the program and ready to partner with kibo staff to implement this activity.
