Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B, to teach about the lesson of school dropouts. The community was ready for the lessons. Khamadi the secretary welcomed the community and thanked Diana with the entire team of Kibo for teaching them the good lessons that have transformed their community. Diana thanked Khamadi for complementing the community empowerment program. She told them that what makes Kibo happy, is when the community puts into practice what is being taught to them. Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson, Zironda said that she learnt that bride price brings together the family of the marriage partners, Khamadi said that to brings honor and recognition to the bride’s family and also the groom gains respect in the community. Yudaya also said that it makes some women live in abusive marriages. Diana added on saying that such women need to be helped, because they can end up losing their lives. Diana thanked them for being attentive in the lessons. She introduced the lesson of the day which was school dropouts. Diana asked them what they understand by school dropouts, Fazira said it is when children fail to complete school. Dana a thanked her for her answer. Diana added on that a dropout is someone who has left school or college before they have finished their studies. Diana asked them to mention some of the causes of school dropouts, Khamadi said lack of necessities for the child, Susan, said hunger can make children to dropout of school, Sofia said peer pressure is also another cause of school dropouts. Diana said that indeed peer pressure has misled most children. If children fall into the hands of wrong friends, they are bound to drop out of school, Laziness of some children who don’t want to stay at school for a long time has made some children to drop out of school, Sumaya added on that some parents don’t show love to their children and also they do not check out the teacher relation with child. Diana agreed with Sumaya saying that when children do not get love from parents they seek love from else, hence making them drop out of school. The teacher relationship is key parents have to pay visits to their children at school. Some times parents ignore the children’s complaints and yet they are being tormented at school by the teachers. Diana continued this discussion with the community. Khamadi thanked Diana for teaching them. He said that this message was timely as children will be going back to school, come January.
