Notes
Chris was in this community to continue engaging the community members to lay strategies how they can diversify into other activities apart from just saving money. Budumba community saving project is currently worth 480,000 Uganda shillings and the members hope if they can re-invest part of their savings into other projects , it can help diversify their income generating activities , one member called Eddy last week advised his fellow community members not to put “all their eggs in one basket” . Chris is making sure the community members make the rightful decisions as the discussions on economic activities continue however initially the community members have insisted to have a discussion with the CDO so that they can make decisions that can liaise with the government programs, Chris was able to get in touch with the CDO , Mr Enoch and he confirmed he would attend today’s meeting. While in the community Chris found the members already in queues of handing in their savings to the community treasurer, the process of saving was a little bit slow but Chris had to patient until it was done, right away the chairperson Mr Otim welcomed Chris to the meeting and commended Kibo Group for teaching the community how to plan in their homes, Mr Otim attributed this to the lessons Mvule program has been offering , Mr Otim pointed out the lesson of economic activities (income generating activities) , he said many homes now have small businesses like selling sweet bananas, pan cakes, and local eggs , he said when Chris told members to identify available resources they can utilize to start any income generating activities in their homes, they embraced the idea and many of them have established stalls in front of their homes. The chairperson requested the treasurer to update the members on how much has been contributed before they can decide which other project they , Mr Otim said it was very important for the treasurer to clarify the community members on who have contributed and who have not. The treasurer Mrs Mukyaala Florence had to go back to the records to check how much every member had contributed, later after a thorough checking through the records , the treasurer informed the meetings that 480,000 shillings is so far collected and therefore members should continue contributing and saving before they can think of venturing into other activities however Shaw was very thankful to the community for embracing saving culture. The District councilor, Mr Okanya David appreciated Kibo and thanked God for enabling them to come to the community, he acknowledges the time Kibo has been in the community and says they have benefited a lot. He says the registration is in process, and in the final stages. He informed the community that he had just received a call from the CDO that he would arrive late for the meeting however he advised members to patiently wait for him because the meeting was very crucial. In conclusion, decided to save up to 1,000,000 shillings before they can decide to diversify their project by starting another income generating activity to supplement the saving project, the CDO was to meet the community members and assure them that the registration process was going on well. Chris will continue with discussions on economic activities lessons next week.
