Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to teach community members how to mix chicken feeds. During the week, the community members sat and decided as a group that since not everyone knows how to write, let only few who can write attend and will pass the information to rest. Anthony Tatya the chairperson introduced the few members to Ida and they promised to deliver the message to rest of the members. Ida started by thanking the members for accepting the task of taking notes and also encouraged them to do some photocopies if possible. Ida taught the ambassadors two types of feeds. Chic and duck mash for chics from day one to week eight. Growers mash for chickens from week nine and above. Below is the recipe: CHIC AND DUCK MASH: ( from day one to week eight) Maize brand. 62 kgs. Cottonseed cake. 20 kgs. Silver fish (mukene). 10 kgs. Shells. 7 kgs Salt. 0.5 kg Pre- mix( general purpose. 0.5 kg. Mix all the ingredients until you cannot tell which is maize brand or silver fish. When giving water, do not mix with feeds, water should be in a drinker and the feeds in a feeder. Store the mixed feeds in a cool dry place. When chickens are eight weeks old, change the feeds just as mothers change their children’s diet at six months. GROWERS MASH: ( from week eight and above) Maize brand. 73 kgs Cotton seed cake. 10 kgs Silver fish ( mukene). 10 kgs Shells. 6 kgs Salt. 1/2 kg Pre- mix (G. Purpose). 1/2 kg Mix very well as we did in the previous mixture. Give enough water to chickens. Store in a cool dry place.
