- Notes
- David and Steven went to kigalama to follow up on the borehole account contributions which was made by the village since they were required to contribute 300,000shillings towards the account . They also went to follow up on the hygiene and sanitation facilities as well as meeting with the water users committee members guiding them on how to build a strong new borehole fence . They first moved in about forty homes monitoring and encouraging the residents about good sanitation facilities, improvement and maintenance.Amongst the forty homes they moved to about thirty eight homes had latrines.shower areas, rubbish pits. They also noted that the other challenge was about the hand washing facility which was not seen in any home and the dish-racks which were in few homes. After all that they went for a meeting together with the water users committee members . They asked the members how much they had collected, they said 250000 shillings. The Kibo staff thanked them for the great work but also encouraged them to reach out to those who had not effected their contributions to pay like the rest of the community members in order to get the remaining balance of 50000 shillings. They agreed and said that they will be visiting them during the evenings when they are out of their gardens. Also Kibo staff took some time teaching and guiding the water users committee members on a-good strong standardized borehole fence . They talked to them about the right sizes of the poles at the end of it all the members agreed and learnt that the best poles are the bigger ones and more so if available the type of trees or poles which would germinate. They also encouraged them to maintain the soak-pit by putting gravels or stones in it not forgetting the fence constructed to guard around even the soak pit.On addition to the above the Kibo staff encouraged all the three communities for example the two schools and the residents to continue working together for the future sustainability of their borehole. As well as good home sanitation facility maintenance .Generally the hygiene and sanitation status of the entire community wasn’t bad it only required the few homes to maintain the few facilities in order to meet the right set standards.
